ERIC JOSEPH GIBBONS MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT

On November 25, 26 and 27, Plymouth Youth Hockey will host the 19th annual Eric Joseph Gibbons Memorial “A” Tournament at the John Armstrong Memorial Skating Rink in Plymouth, Massachusetts.  Bantam, Squirt, and Pee Wee “A” level teams from both Massachusetts and beyond will honor the spirit and courage shown by Eric Joseph Gibbons.

Eric was born on December 10, 1973, in Plymouth.  He was an active, athletic child, learning to skate at the age of three both at the Armstrong Rink and the cranberry bogs near his home.   In addition to skating, Eric loved to fish with his father for the “Big Blues” off Plymouth Harbor, BMX bicycling, building model rockets, skiing, fireworks, and his quad runner. He became a member of Plymouth Youth Hockey at the age of 5, playing for the Plymouth Mite B team.  During his Squirt season, he was diagnosed with cancer.

Sadly, Eric lost his fight with cancer, and he passed away on March 2, 1987, after having fought a long and courageous battle. He touched many people in his short life with his courage, strength, wit, and beautiful smile, and he is missed by all that knew him.

On behalf of the players, parents, and Directors of Plymouth Youth Hockey, please join us at the Armstrong Rink to commemorate the life of Eric Joseph Gibbons.
